Please use the SAGE PRACTICE TESTS to help familiarize your student with the FORMAT of the SAGE (Student Assessment of Growth and Excellence) Assessment. These Practice Tests to NOT generate a score. They are to help you and your student see and understand how to navigate the testing platform. This is not a multiple choice answer test. Students will need to show what they know and show how to solve problems. I do want to point out, that this is an adaptive assessment and the difficulty of the questions that come up will depend somewhat on how your child is answering previous questions. Most all of our students have already seen this assessment format, when they took it last school year, except for our 3rd graders. This will be all new to them, so please take some time to review how to work through the problems and help your student "see" what the testing format will "look like". ***I have created some Math handouts to go along with the practice test. Again, there are no scores generated, so the handout will be helpful in determining what exactly the student is to do.
Remember students will be testing in 3-4 areas. Please keep your child and his/her testing ability in mind when scheduling. I have enough dates and sessions outlined so that a student can come in and complete just one test per day--or, two or more assessment per date are also a possibility. I am happy to accommodate your child’s needs and schedule testing how you prefer. I have 22 computers in the computer lab and will schedule students on a first come basis, so please email me with your day(s)/session time(s).
Just like with all secure, state and national tests, this assessment has very strict guidelines I must follow. I have specific directions I must read exactly as outlined in my Test Administration Manual. I am not able to paraphrase or help students with test questions or directions. Parents and visitors are not allowed in the testing room during testing. These rules are to protect student information and the validity of the assessment, they are the same rules as in years past and are not new. I simply want to outline them and make sure everyone is aware, so you can understand why I would like for you to bring your child to one of the workshops (so you and your student can work through the functions and tools in the test (those are new) and ask me any questions ). I do not want your student to feel frustrated because they don’t understand how to use the tools on the assessment. I will be using the same example questions that you can access at home. If you would prefer to practice with your child at home, you can log into the SAGE practice test by clicking on the SAGE Practice Portal button at the top of the page. Log into the Training Tests and then leave the boxes for “guest” filled in and follow the steps to access the subject/grade. The school has downloaded a better "voice-pak" than the one I had when I accessed these tests from home.
If you are practicing at home and would like an outline to follow for Math 3-4 or Math 5-6 you can scroll down and click on the button below. This is the exact handout I will be using with students during the workshops (both at CEC and online). *Also, keep in mind the main purpose of practicing is to figure out the functions and tools of the test. I have been using the Math 5-6 even for 7th and 8th grade students--it still serves as a great resource and covers all the needed information for practice.
Thank you all for your time and dedication. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me ASAP.
